Mahjong is a Chinese game which is played using 144 tiles. It is typically played by four players, and the objective of the game is to create specific patterns with the tiles. The pattern combinations and score evaluation depend on the version of the game.
The Chinese version of Mahjong has several unique rules, one of them being the ‘No Repeat’ rule. This states that no two identical tiles can be located in the same suit. Additionally, the ‘No Flowers’ rule scarcely applies to the Chinese version of Mahjong. This rule prevents multiple players from collecting Flower tiles twice during the course of the game.
The Japanese version of Mahjong has different rules to its Chinese counterpart. It allows for ‘Replacement’ or ‘Tile Stealing’, where any tile thrown away from any of the players can be taken by the next player. Additionally, the Japanese version has a valid rule for Four Pong, where the game can be won if a player has four pongs.
